Introduction

WSP Power Systems offers expert consulting services in distribution networks and power supply. We are involved in all stages of the process, from early feasibility studies to design, implementation, and project management. We assist our clients in analyzing the environment, market, regulations, and more. Our expertise spans overhead lines, underground cables, substations and switchgear, electrified transport, renewable energy production, complex energy systems, and backup power.

To meet the future energy transition, we need an experienced designer specializing in substations and power supply.

You will be part of a Nordic project team with deep expertise in the field and you will get the opportunity to work on projects in both Finland and Sweden. For this position you can be placed in any of our Finnish offices.

The role

As a Substation Designer at WSP, you will be a technical key-player in projects – from early investigations to completed substations. Sometimes you will lead the entire design work, sometimes you will support as a specialist. This can involve new construction, upgrades, or transition to renewable energy. Our clients include power grid companies, industries, and public entities.

Your role includes, but are not limited to:

• Design substations and switchgear at voltage levels from 0.4 kV up to 400 kV – both AIS and GIS systems.

• Work in CAD environments (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Elmaster) and produce drawings, layouts, and technical documentation

• Perform cable sizing, selectivity planning, and relay protection analysis (Febdok, ETAP)

• Create connection tables, material specifications, and technical descriptions

• Develop system solutions for power distribution, auxiliary power, backup power, and UPS

• Participate in commissioning of electrical installations and conduct field visits and inspections

• Provide technical support to our clients – during the design phase and implementation

• Lead or contribute to investigations, feasibility studies, and preparation of tender documents

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with several years of experience in substation and power supply design and a post-secondary education in a relevant technical field.

You are social and enjoy interacting with others, building relationships, and taking responsibility for your own tasks and colleagues. Furthermore, we believe you are a flexible person who thrives working both in groups and independently.

We operate in a global environment where we form teams across borders, so it is important that you are comfortable communicating in both Finnish and English.
